Canada’s northern ocean spaces, which support both wildlife and coastal livelihoods, are increasingly threatened by industrial development. Moreover, the Canadian Arctic is warming three times as fast as the global average as a result of climate change. This combination directly threatens pristine marine ecosystems, biodiversity and coastal communities. Against this backdrop, there is a window of opportunity to conserve marine areas in a way that contributes to the long-term health and wellbeing of both communities and nature. Oceans North is working in partnership with Indigenous and coastal communities to support research, policy and actions that will lead to resilient, abundant oceans for future generations.
